MBC Studio Build and Awards Night

The challenge

Broadcast tolerances are unforgiving. Every surface had to hold under camera at 4K, every seam had to disappear, and the studio had to be handed over in time for a live awards broadcast eleven days later.

• 620 m² permanent studio set with broadcast-grade finishes
• Integrated LED walls and lighting grid
• Awards night stage, seating and trophy choreography
• Multi-camera broadcast support and live streaming
• Green room, press area and guest hospitality

How it was executed

The set package was written with a broadcast finish standard rather than an event finish standard, and a camera test was made a mandatory milestone before installation was signed off. Two panels failed the test and were refinished before anyone saw them on air.

The awards night ran on the same floor eleven days later, which meant the set had to be designed for a second configuration from the start. The seating plan, cable routes and camera positions were drawn together, not sequentially.

Rehearsal discipline carried the broadcast. Twenty-two award sequences were programmed and run four times before the live show, and the run of show did not move by more than ninety seconds on the night.
